ACTION ALERT.
Oppose LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) proposals. On Thursday, Shore11's Joe Reynolds has joined Clean Ocean Action and 30 other NJ & NY groups urging citizen action to block three huge proposed projects off the Jersey Shore (off Sea Bright, Manasquan, and Asbury Park, and potentially harming the entire shore). Several of the many detriments he mentions in an eloquent blog post:
  • "Do we really want to expose our historic and long-standing communities to dangers of pipeline leaks and explosions from imported LNG? Moreover the possible impacts from installing a new sub-sea pipeline at the bottom of the ocean and bay cannot be overlooked.... Like oil, natural gas is a greenhouse gas and a fossil fuel. Let's cut the addiction and get real about moving forward with a clean and sustainable energy plan for New Jersey that does not negatively impact the Jersey Shore, Sandy Hook Bay, or Raritan Bay."
He urges: "Please send an email or letter today to express your concern about locating LNG facilities and pipelines in the waters off New Jersey's coastline." He says to contact Gov. Corzine this way. And you may contact your U.S. and state legislators; an easy lookup tool is linked here.
